Villers Abbey is teaming up with fire and pyrotechnics expert Showflamme & Smart on the evening of September 29th, 2018 for the first edition of La Symphonie du Feu (Symphony of Fire), staged inside the Abbey.
A walk of a thousand flames...
Numerous fire installations will be dotted around the Abbey for the occasion. Cradled by Baroque music, the public is invited to roam the Abbey's majestic decor, lit up by thousands of flames. The itinerary will also feature 3 fire stages with performing artists and 3 music stages.
A poetic encounter between fire, music and architecture
The Baroque music programme chosen for this 1st edition is led by Belgian countertenor Dominique Corbiau and designed to underline the communion between the site's architecture and the naturally magic and bewitching light cast by the flames.
Fire, fire everywhere!
La Symphonie du Feu is a unique show, where fire takes centre stage and is the only lighting used throughout the event. All artificial lighting will be deliberately eliminated. The flame installations will include gas-fired devices, fire pots, garlands, chandeliers and circles of fire.

With its soothing blend of warmth from the fires, crackling flames, poetical pyrotechnic creations, Baroque melodies and the magic of the site itself, this event promises to enchant.

On the programme
Musical stages: Baroque
- Led by countertenor Dominique Corbiau and his musicians (two violins, a viola, cello, harpsichord, theorbo and Baroque guitar). Dominique has always been drawn to the Baroque era, which naturally led him to focus on his countertenor skills.
- Hervé Douchy, cellist and Baroque music specialist.
- Hannelore Devaere, harpist, specializing in Spanish and Italian music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
Fire stages: a series of poetic shows combining fire and other artistic disciplines
- Moving Fire Art: Fire, acrobatics, dance and theatre. This stirring duo offers an intimate and spectacular show.
- Les Enfants du Feu & Caval’Ame: Fire and horses. A fabulous bond between pyrotechnic artists and animals.
- La Compagnie Tapaka: Fire and aerial acrobatics. A sensual and poetic show, with a male and female performer entwined in an acrobatic embrace.
Finale: Fireworks by Lux Factory. An audacious and thrilling show using cutting-edge pyrotechnic technology.
