From October 18, 2025 to March 15, 2026, Villers Abbey hosts the exhibition "Yderst" by Sébastien Van Malleghem and Kristen R. Johnsen. 18 large-format photos of the European coastline, considered a vital space currently in danger in the face of the climate crisis.
Climate emergency
Europe's coasts are under heavy pressure. The EU report on the state of coasts in the context of climate change points to numerous threats - including habitat loss and degradation, pollution and overexploitation of fish stocks - to coastal ecosystems. From the Norwegian Arctic to Brittany and Belgium, the Yderst exhibition plunges us into the daily lives of coastal communities, their living traditions and their challenges for the future: endangered artisanal fishing, Arctic minorities, regional languages, local industries and UNESCO candidate sites. The project questions our relationship with the sea and opens up concrete avenues for a "Blue Green Deal".

Yderst Europe
Yderst ("extreme" or "the end" in northern Norwegian dialect) is an international photojournalistic project that promotes slow journalism and defends the place, in the media, of coastal areas and indigenous communities in close relationship with nature. Through its poetic and committed approach, this non-profit medium supported by the European Union celebrates seaside culture and invites everyone to reweave a sensitive link with the ocean.

In the same boat
At the helm of this exhibition are Sébastien Van Malleghem , a Belgian photographer renowned for his incisive reporting on justice, migration and social crises, author of the book Nordic Noir , who is now turning his attention to the Arctic and climate issues, and Kristina R. Johnsen , heiress to a line of fishermen, editor of Yderst magazine and project manager originally from northern Norway.
